Memorial Day out East
Summer has officially arrived!! After being cooped up inside during a long and freezing cold winter, this weekend was most definitely a celebration of love, life and the great outdoors. I had the pleasure of spending the weekend in a rustic waterfront cottage in Amagansett, where I had a new found love affair with natural light. I had forgotten its beauty and effect on the indoors, as it poured into the house through perfectly positioned skylights, and made for an ethereal waking into consciousness every morning to the gorgeous pink and red sunrise over Napeague Bay.
I have been dreaming of wearing this outfit in the Hamptons for some time now. It embodies all that style in the Hamptons should be: Casually comfortable, white and distressed, denim, earthy textiles, ropey, farmer chic, never-go-wrong-with stripes, overalls and always completed with a sweater—because there is inevitably a cool breeze off the water.
Whatever your plans are this summer I hope you get outside and rekindle your relationship with nature.
The Eye Travels will joyfully be coming to you from a sweet little waterfront oasis in Sag Harbor from July 1st until the end of the summer. Last year it was a private magical meadow that made me fall enchanted with the Hamptons and this year it will be sunsets over the beachy bay. Until then I'll be dreaming of kayaking, digging for clams, paddle boarding, sailing, croqueting and long walks in the wildlife reserve. Oh! And of course the extraordinary peaches, strawberries, cantaloupes, zucchini strips and long luxurious lunches spent grazing from noon until dinner on farm fresh produce and prepared foods.
