Delaire Graff Estate

I have yet to visit Napa Valley, though I have been to other vineyards, yet never have I seen anything quite like Delaire Graff Estate, with it’s pristinely groomed landscape adorned with South African sculptures - living up to its name ‘ The Jewel of the Cape Winelands.’

Here, I learned that enjoying a glass of wine is about reliving a moment in time. Capturing the South African sunshine in a glass, as I’ll have a memory of meandering through grape vines at sunset and witnessing the golden orange hue cascade through the crevices of the distant mountain, illuminating the crops and neighboring vineyards—time literally slows down.

When I open a bottle of Terraced Block Chardonnay back home I will see, smell and feel that scene with each sip.

If you find yourself in Cape Town I highly recommend spending a night at Delaire Graff or at least stop in for a glass of Terraced Block Chardonnay at sunset and dinner. Get a reservation at Indocine, request table 21 (best seat in the house in my opinion) and be sure to order a wine that is spectacular enough to warrant the use of Eve - the most exquisite decanter in the silhouette of a snake. Order the Beef Rendang and the Aromatic Prawn Curry to share, surf and turf magic. And you must try the Scotch Egg appetizer, you’ll want two orders. In true Pan-Asian style finish off with the Banana Spring Rolls. Heaven in your mouth and in your glass.
